Spring decluttering is upon us, and below are just a few of the quickest categories that can start your decluttering or downsizing journey.

CARDBOARD BOXES

There are often multiple sources of empty boxes everywhere in the home. They are one of the easiest things to tackle that can have a big impact. We all keep more boxes than we need, and they take up space!

RECYCLE DEPOT ITEMS

These categories are often very time-consuming and can add up and take up lots of space.

  • Old batteries of any kind
  • Old paint or spray paint or chemicals
  • Cleaners or car liquids not being used or are older
  • Pesticides or other pest chemicals
  • Old computer equipment or printers
  • Electronic cords and chargers or old TVs
  • Gardening seeds, chemicals, supplies

PICTURES IN FRAMES

Photos still in frames but not being displayed. This is a decluttering clue for you. They take up a lot more space than if they were stored without the frames. Remove the photos from the frames and donate the frames.

ARTWORK

There are often pieces of artwork or home decor that you are no longer using or no longer love, but are still being stored in your home.

STATIONERY OR GIFT WRAPPING MATERIALS

Review the quantity of items you have to wrap gifts or paper stationery. Be ruthless. How many pens are lurking in a drawer that may or may not work.

DONATE, SELL, OR DISCARD RULE

  1. Donate: Give unwanted items to charity or a local donation center or family, friends
  2. Sell: Items online or at a consignment store
  3. Discard: Throw away items that are broken, damaged or no longer usable

Lastly, decluttering can be tiring so tackle it in a short burst of time each day or a few days a week. Pick one small area at a time to start and stay focused on that one area until completed.
